Redesigning Cubbon Park

Brief: Redesigning an iconic, historical park in Bengaluru, keeping in mind the principles of universal accessibility.
I designed a park around the famous Victoria Statue in Cubbon Park, Bengaluru in collaboration with another student in my course. We were given a blank slate to build on, and we decided to take up the principles of inclusivity, accessibility, and sustainability in our design. Hence we incorporated a jogging track, an inclusive playground, amphitheater and an art café.
The concept of the art café was put forth to bridge the gap between the masses and the art world. Thus, we created a space where art can be created as well as displayed. There would be panels in place along the pedestrian route around the park, where people passing by can also see the art. A part of this display could be curated, where it also becomes a platform for up and coming artists.
Along with these elements, we have also adhered to the basic standards of universal design, including a tactile path throughout the park, and all slopes, even the one housing the amphitheater are of the 1:12 ratio.
The following are the initial form explorations for the design of the centre, followed by the final design and the 3D views.
